Safeway Select Peppermint Tea Review

An Average Bagged Generic Peppermint Tea

Summary : It's hard to make a bad peppermint tea...as all it is is peppermint leaves. But Safeway food stores came pretty close to accomplishing the impossible...with this below average peppermint bagged tea.

Review : I'm a peppermint junkie. Until this evening, I truly never thought I would find a peppermint tea I REALLY didn't like. Even the supermarket brand peppermint teas have always been enjoyable...if somewhat forgettable. And, of course...in my favorite tea list...I have several different brands of peppermint tea I truly adore.

Now, Safeway Select is not likely a brand that will elicit wows in the world of tea. After all...it is a grocery store generic tea, and a bagged one at that.

Still, I did think that being a peppermint tea it should be no better/worse than other bagged peppermint teas you find in the grocery store.

I was wrong.

Initially, I did get my hopes up. The fragrance of the peppermmint is very strong...just like it should be.

But the flavor was disappointing. No doubt owing to the poor quality of the tea leaves used, the flavor was somewhat weak...and far, far weaker than any loose-leaf peppermint tea I've had. But even when stacked up against other bagged teas like Stash Peppermint Tea, this tea was simply "flat" and weak.

And perhaps even worse, the tea had NO after-taste. A good peppermint tea should impart a after-taste that lasts a very long time. This tea had virtually none, zilcho, zero, well...you get the idea.

I have no idea where Safeway actually gets this tea. But where-ever they do, the poor quality of the leaves show up in the taste of the tea.

There are many good to superb peppermint teas in the world today.

This tea isn't one of them.

Recommendation : No. In the world of peppermint teas, you'll be hard pressed to find a worse one. The tea is still drinkable, but once you've had GOOD peppermint teas...you'll realize how BAD this one is by comparison!
