Republic of Tea Blueberry Green
Tea Review
If Blueberries Are Your Thing...You'll
Like This Tea
Summary : This is a pleasant, non-bitter, blueberry
flavored green tea that is loaded with antioxidants. If you adore all
things blueberries, this tea has your name on it.
Review : A good green tea is great. But, I'll let you
in on a little secret. All too many of them have a grassy flavor to them,
even some of the so-called
premium green teas. Now, a grassy flavor is just fine and dandy if either
grass is your thing or you enjoy eating what horses do. But for the rest
of us, a tea that tastes like grass isn't really that appealing.
As such, while I found myself in the mood for a green tea tonight, I
just simply could not bring myself to sample a straight green tea...as
I just didn't want to risk nibbling on anything that might have a grassy
flavor to it.
So, I dug through my rather large tea sample assortments and the first
bagged green tea to show itself was a blueberry green tea from the Republic
of Tea. Blueberries, huh? Since I never had a blueberry green tea before,
I figured it was worth a try.
This blueberry green tea from the Republic of Tea contains the following
ingredients : Fine China green tea leaves, natural blueberry flavor and
blueberry bits.
Here is how the Republic of Tea describes this tea : "This
healthy tea offers the experience of freshly plucked green tea and juicy,
succulent
blueberries. Green tea contains powerful antioxidants associated with
the prevention of heart disease and cancer. In addition, the USDA Human
Nutrition Center ranked blueberries #1 in antioxidant activity, helping
to promote anti-aging and disease prevention." I'll confess...this tea surprised me. I'm not exactly a blueberry
lover, particularly blueberries right off the vine. I'm more of a huckleberry
person, which probably stems from living up in Montana for so many
years.
The aroma of the tea was of moderate strength, which really isn't
surprising since it is a bagged tea and blueberries aren't known as
having the most potent of fragrances. But, the aroma that there was
said it all...blueberries!
Despite not being a blueberry fanatic,
I found this tea quite enjoyable, rather surprisingly. The flavor of
the tea was ALL blueberry. But happily,
for
someone who
doesn't
get
a thrill
out of raw blueberries, the flavor was of just moderate strength. And
thankfully, the tea had absolutely zero bitterness. And best of all,
there was no taste of grass either.
So, if blueberries are your thing, this tea is definitely worth a
try. It nicely combines a non-grassy green tea flavor with blueberries,
producing a non-bitter and very flavorful tea.
Recommendation : Yes. Blueberry lovers will adore
this tea, all the more so since it is a green tea. Indeed, people searching
for a tea with lots of anti-oxidants will love this tea...since it
combines blueberries (which have a lot of anti-oxidants) with green
tea (which also has lots of anti-oxidants). However, if you don't like
blueberries, then this tea is definitely not for you.
