Numi Velvet Rose
White Tea Review
An Excellent "Rose Flavored" Organic
White Tea
Summary : This tea nicely blends the delicate flavor
of a white tea with the delicate flavor or a rose. The result is a very
unique and enjoyable white tea.
Review : This is NOT suppose to happen in Reno, Nevada!
Below zero weather...yuck. If I wanted below zero weather I'd move to
International Falls, Minnesota, or back up to Montana and live in Glasgow.
Or if I really loved the cold...I'd head north to Fairbanks, Alaska,
where I could shiver away 6 months of the year.
But alas, we can't have everything we want in life. And so, while shivering
away on my nightly walk this evening, I really was in the mood for a sea that
said "warmth of summer." Which is, of course, how I happened on a
white tea from Numi called Velvet Rose.
Here is how Numi describes this tea on their website : "Roses have been
a symbol of love and beauty since the dawn of romance. Numi's enchanting Velvet
Garden releases a provocative sweet rosy taste as it blushes a soft pink. With
every sip this liaison of organic rose petals and delicate Spring White tea
imparts a silken smoothness. White Tea is the tender bud of the tea plant making
it exquisitely subtle and supremely healthy. High in antioxidants and vitamin
C, this uplifting Fair Trade Certified white tea blend will be the beginning
of a long lasting love affair."
This tea contains the following ingredients : Organic White Tea, Organic Rose
Buds.
You know, for once, Numi's description of this tea is pretty straight-forward
and not quite so exotic. Beyond the "love affair" thing (is it really
possible to truly love a tea??), the description provided by Numi is really
quite accurate.
Despite being a bagged tea, I've found that Numi Teas really are the "premium
of bagged supermarket teas." Their teas are organic, and in general they
emit quite the powerful aroma...unlike so many other bagged teas that have
no aroma at all due to sitting on the grocery shelf since the ending of the
last ice age.
The aroma of this tea is, quite simply, delightful. The aroma really is what
you would expect from just reading the label of the tea...a mixing of white
tea and rose. And what is better than a rose to help
remove the frigid chill of a rather cold winter?
I was quite pleased with the flavor of this tea too, rather happily. Admittedly,
I was a bit worried that this tea might be a bit "too flowery." Sort
of like a jasmine tea...but tasting of rose instead. Happily, this wasn't the
case. Instead, the rose flavor is quite subdued...yet still quite noticeable.
As the flavor of white tea in general is quite "delicate" and "subdued," I
found the "delicate and subdued" rose flavor just mixed perfectly.
I also found the after-taste of this white tea very enjoyable. It imparts
a rather soft and delicate but long-lasting flavor of rose on the tongue.
All in all, I really enjoyed this tea. For anyone who hasn't had a white tea
before, this tea from Numi is as good as place as any to start with, assuming
you don't mind a "subdued flowery taste" in your tea to begin with.
And if you have had a rose tea before, well, by all means...get this tea, as
I have no doubts that you will enjoy it.
Recommendation : Yes. If you enjoy any sort of a "flowery
tasting tea," you'll definitely like this one. The flavor is delicate
and subdued, yet powerful enough to make drinking it a unique experience. This
tea is also a good starting point for first-timers into the world of white
tea, too.
