Twinings Peppermint Herbal Tea Review
A Disappointing Peppermint Tea
Summary : This tea was a big, big disappointment. This peppermint tea has a nice aroma, but that is about the kindest thing I can say about it.
Review : Peppermint teas have to be one of my favorite herbal teas around. Indeed, even crappy, no-name, generic peppermint teas usually are quite drinkable. And good quality loose-leaf peppermint teas can literally knock you off your feet with the teas powerful aroma and flavor.
And due to this love affair with all things peppermint, I was very much looking forward to giving the peppermint tea from Twinings Tea a try.
Here is how Twinings describes their peppermint tea : "Pure peppermint leaves with a fresh mint aroma and a wonderfully relaxing and refreshing taste."
Well, normally I would agree that a peppermint tea, any peppermint tea for that matter, would indeed have a refreshing taste and be a relaxing, after-dinner tea.
But I'll make an exception in this case. True, the tea had a very powerful aroma. So powerful, in fact, you could plainly smell the peppermint even before ripping open the foil bags the tea bags came in.
But alas...the flavor of the tea was a huge disappointment. Indeed, I didn't realize a peppermint tea could taste so poorly.
Where to begin. Hmm....how about the lack of mint flavor for starters. Normally, when you drink a peppemrint tea, you get a "gotcha moment" on your first sip...as the powerful flavor of the peppermint hits you.
What you get with this peppermint tea is a huge disappointment. There is some peppermint flavor obviously...as the tea is only peppermint leaves and nothing more...but the flavor is so weak. Incredibly weak.
And then there is the after-taste. Most good peppermint teas have an after-taste that can linger for an hour. With this tea from Twinings, there is little after-taste at all. Indeed, the after-taste could be best described as non-existent.
Recommendation : No. With all the good peppermint teas in the world today...both in loose-leaf and bagged form...there is no reason at all to subject yourself to the wimpy flavor found in this peppermint tea.
