Safeway Select Chamomile Herbal
Tea Review
A Good But Forgettable Chamomile Tea
Summary : This is a pleasant enough chamomile tea.
But there is nothing special about it either. Basically...just your average
bagged chamomile tea from the grocery store.
Review : After being happily surprised by the generic
Safeway Peppermint & Chamomile
Herbal Tea, I was sort of in the mood
to try their straight chamomile tea, sort of as a comparison. Additionally,
as it was 2am...and I wasn't tired...it was also sort of a desperate
attempt to see if I could get to sleep, as chamomile tea is a perfect,
all-natural sleep aid...at least for me!
The fragrance of the tea was pretty much what I expected from a bagged
chamomile tea...a slight aroma of chamomile flowers but certainly not
anywhere near as powerful as you'll get in a loose-leaf
chamomile tea.
Still, there is more to life than aroma. Ultimately, the flavor of the
tea is what counts...so I poured the boiling water over the tea bag and
began the five minute countdown.
And I was pleasantly surprised. I've had some bad
bagged chamomile teas before, so to be honest I was dreading this one subconsciously.
Unlike the bad bagged chamomile teas, this tea neither had a "burnt
aroma" once brewed nor did it have a "burnt taste" once brewed...a trait
all too common in other poor quality bagged chamomile teas. As a chamomile
tea is meant to be a relaxation tea...the last thing in the world you
want is a burnt smell or taste right before heading to bed!
Like all straight chamomile teas, the flavor was subtle...the flavor
of chamomile flowers will never knock you out of your socks. And this
is for good reason since this tea is meant to be taken right before bedtime!
Similarily, like other chamomile teas, this one has virtually no after-taste...again,
this is a good sign.
Recommendation : Yes, happily. For a bagged chamomile tea,
this tea was a surprise. No burnt taste. No burnt aroma. Just the subtle
flavor of chamomile...making for a pleasant before bed tea.
