Lipton Orange Herbal Tea Review
Not a bad orange tea...but not the
greatest either
Summary : If you are having an orange tea craving,
this isn't a bad tea. But it definitely pales in comparison to loose-leaf
herbal teas that have a orange flavor.
Review : The Orange Herbal Tea from Lipton is actually
the very first bagged tea from Lipton that I've tried. And as expected,
the experience was neither delightful nor awful, which is about as good
as one can expect I suspect when dealing with supermarket brand bagged
teas.
The smell of the tea right out of the foil package did nothing to allay
my fears that the taste of this tea would be weak - as the smell was
weak! And in general, a weak smelling tea is all-to-frequently a weak
tasting one too.
And sadly, that is pretty much what you get. Once brewed, the tea has
a weak, but still distinctive, orange taste. The taste is pleasant enough
- its just weak, no other way to describe it.
Looking over the ingredients of this tea, one might expect a fairly
robust tea. After all, this orange tea contains the following : Orange
peel, hibiscus flowers, cinnamon, roasted chicory root, clove, licorice
root, natural orange flavor (contains soy lecithin).
However, in hindsight, that this tea was on the weak side really shouldn't
be surprising. After all, this is a bagged tea - and a supermarket version
of bagged tea at that. What that means is that the leaves are tiny, and
are generally the "last of the lot" (or to be less politically
correct, the "leftover" tea leaves).
So, will you like this tea? Hmmm....good question. My own take on it
is that it isn't bad, but hardly anything special. And if you REALLY
want to have a orange flavored herbal tea, then stick with loose-leaf
varieties from Culinary Teas and others - as the flavor of those teas
is far, far stronger (and more pleasing too, I thought).
Still, this orange tea from Lipton is far from terrible. It won't ruin
your day by drinking it. And in a pinch - where you can't make up a pot
of loose-leaf tea or are out of it - this tea can fill in the gap without
horrible consequences.
Recommendation : If you don't have the loose-leaf orange
herbal teas on hand, this tea will be ok. But the taste of this tea is
pretty weak, and in no way comes close to the "real thing" (loose
leaf orange flavored tea).
