Adagio Teas Pina Colada Herbal Tea Review

A Beautiful Whole Fruit Tea with a Strong Coconut & Pineapple Flavor

Summary : One of the most beautiful teas I've tried, this tea has a powerful flavor of coconut and pineapple. Those who love tropical fruits, or the Pina Colada's found at your favorite tavern or restaurant, will definitely enjoy this tea.

Review : Perhaps it is the approach of Christmas, but for whatever reason I found myself in the mood for something alcoholic tonight. Yet, I really didn't feel like sitting around home getting tipsy. So I rummaged through my collection of teas, looking for a version of a tea that might somehow satisfy my peculiar urge for alcohol tonight, and came across a whole fruit herbal tea from Adagio Teas called Pina Colada.

Adagio Pina Colada Herbal Tea

Since Adagio Teas Pina Colada is a whole fruit tea, there are no "tea leaves" per se. Instead, there is a myriad of various dried fruit pieces instead.

Here is how Adagio Teas describes this tea on their website : "From the sweet aroma when you open the pouch, to the beautiful rose colored cup, this tropical favorite will have you counting the days until your next island getaway. A mouthwatering blend of ripe pineapple, succulent coconut, fresh apples, rose hips and tangy hibiscus flowers. Vivid flavor with citrus fruity notes and grounding sweetness from the coconut. Completely caffeine free, with no sugar or added sweeteners. There's a hammock in the shade that's calling your name... "

The tea contains the following ingredients : hibiscus flowers, rose hips, apple pieces, dried coconut, natural coconut flavor, pineapple pieces and natural pineapple flavor.

As can be seen from the list of ingredients, the tea contains quite the variety of tropical fruits. And indeed, that is how I would describe this tea - as a tropical fruit tea.

The aroma of the tea right out of the bag is potent - which was no surprise at all. Whole fruit teas are well known for packing a powerful aroma, and the Pina Colada tea is no exception.

Once brewed, this tea is one of the most beautiful teas you'll ever see. The tea is a beautiful light red/dark pink color that is so attractive that instead of drinking the tea you might be tempted to pour the tea into a vase and put it on display in your living room. Yes, I found the color that pretty!

So what abut the flavor? The flavor of the tea is an interesting mix of pineapple and coconut, and tastes surprisingly similar to a Pina Colada ordered at your favorite tavern or restaurant. What I found surprising about the tea was how strong both the flavor of coconut and pineapple was. Usually, in whole fruit teas one flavor pre-dominates. In this tea, I'd say it is an even battle between coconut and pineapple.

Also, one fair warning. The tea itself has a bit of a sour kick to it, so be prepared for a short "lip-puckering" moment, too.

Overall, even though I'm generally not a fan of things with pineapple or coconut in them, I enjoyed this tea. I especially loved the teas color. I'm giving this tea four stars not because it is bad, but simply because "tropical teas" are not my thing and will never be one of my favorite, daily teas.

However, if you love all things "coconut" and "pineapple," there is no doubt at all that you'll rate this a five star tea due to its beauty and powerful flavor.

Recommendation : Yes. If you love coconut, pineapple and in general tropical fruits, you should absolutely love this tea from Adagio Teas. The tea does taste quite similar to a Pina Colada. Moreover, the "tropical" nature of this tea makes it a perfect tea to drink during the long, cold nights of winter, too.
