Stash Chai Green Tea ReviewA Surprisingly Good & Spicy Chai Green Tea Summary : While not the best chai tea in the world today, this tea from Stash is surprisingly good. The tea has a nice, spicy flavor to it with no hint of bitterness. Review : One of the world's greatest inventions since the molecular space modulator is chai tea. You see, few things in the world today provide a more healthy and helpful "pick-me-up" than a chai tea...at least for me. That is why, I suspect I love chai teas in general...their spicy flavor almost always wakes me up and helps me think better and more clearly. I've had more than a few unpleasant experiences with teas from Stash, admittedly. Yet, like all things in life, you can't generalize and say all their teas are bad. After all, I've had some enjoyable teas too.
For this reason, I approached this tea with an open mind...banishing my evil thoughts about their awful green tea out of my mind. Here is how Stash describes this tea : "Enoy the rich flavor of Indian chai in a green tea blend with lighter taste and less caffeine." This tea contains the following ingredients : green tea, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, clove, and natural flavors of cardamon, clove and cinnamon. Since this chai tea is a green tea, not a black tea...this description is quite accurate. The flavor is indeed lighter, and since green tea has less caffeine than black tea, it is also lighter in caffeine too. My first impression of this tea, right out of the foil wrapper, was a good one. For better or for worse, I tend to judge a tea by its aroma. No smell generally equals a very weak tea or a very bad tea, depending on what the tea sets out to accomplish. In this case, this chai green tea had a nice, powerful aroma about it that had "spicy" written all over it. While not as strong, aroma wise, as a similar loose-leaf tea...for a bagged tea, the aroma was surprisingly powerful. And in a bagged tea that is almost always a very good sign! The flavor of this tea did not disappoint either. I've had a few green chai teas that have had a wicked bitterness to them. This tea from Stash happily avoided that problem, nicely blending the spicy flavor of cinnamon and allspice in with the green tea. I found the flavor of cinnamon was particularly enjoyable. Also note that pepper is NOT used in this tea. Many chai teas use an abundance of pepper in it to "spice things up." Depending on your mood and how it is done, this can be a good or a bad thing. But I will still always prefer a spicy tea that doesn't use pepper, since you get the full flavor of ginger and cinnamon and the other spices that go into the tea infusion. Overall, I was quite satisfied with this tea. Anyone who likes a good chai tea should enjoy this one. This tea also makes a nice break away from green teas too. Recommendation : Yes. This tea nicely combines ginger, allspice and cinnamon with a green tea, making for a very enjoyable and rather spicy flavor.
