Celestial Seasonings Decaf Mandarin
Orchard Tea
A Tasty Decaffeinated Green Tea with
a Nice Orange Flavor
Summary : A surprisingly tasty green tea that is also
decaffeinated. A green tea with a nice splash of mandarin orange - all
without the caffeine.
Review : After having struggled to even finish a Tazo
Decaffeinated Green Tea, I'll be honest, I was NOT looking forward
to trying this tea. And so, with that happy thought in mind, I resigned
myself to trying this tea, probably not liking it and getting the
whole review over with as soon as possible.
It shows you what I know. Admittedly, the aroma of the tea out of the
foil wrapper did little to improve my spirits. Oh sure, it had an ok aroma,
but certainly nothing special. Yet, how wrong I was - thankfully!
This tea contains the following ingredeints : Decaffeinated green tea,
orange peel, lemon verbena, natural mandarin orange flavor and other natural
flavors, natural passionfruit flavor, and coriander seed.
Here is what Celestial Seasonings has to say about this green tea. "Two
tropical gems balanced perfectly atop the smooth elegance of traditional
green tea. We add passionfruit and mandarin orange to green tea, and voilà!
A veritable taste treat. And best of all, our natural decaffeination process
keeps the authentic flavor and antioxidant health benefits of the tea intact,
while gently removing the caffeine."
This tea began to surprise me the minute I poured hot water
over it - a nice, moderately strong mandarin orange smell began rising
from the tea - lifting my spirits a bit.
Still, I was pessimistic. After all, this is a decaf tea, right? So
really, how good could it possible be? Very good, that's how good.
Somehow, Celestial Seasonings managed to decaffeinate this tea without
killing the green tea flavor or making it bitter. And the mandarin
orange flavor that has been added in meshes perfectly with the green
tea flavor.
The result
- a darn fine green tea that people who hate caffeine will come to
love.
Recommendation : Yes, even if you don't mind caffeine.
This tea just has a very pleasant flavor - at least if you like manadarin
orange. There is no bitterness and even the green tea tastes pretty
normal, despite being decaffeinated. Celestial Seasonings also claims
that there is no anti-oxidant loss during the decaffeination process,
but I have no way to verify that claim.
