A Good Apple Flavored Black Tea

Summary : A pleasant apple flavored tea that lacks the all-too-often found bitterness and overpowering flavor of many other flavored black teas. The apple flavor in the tea is quite distinct and is very good. If you like apple teas, then this tea is definitely worth a try.

Review : I really do love apples...perhaps because I live in Nevada and the nearest apple orachard is a very long ways away. Yet, I don't entirely love apples right off the vine for whatever reason. I like them other ways...in juice, dried up for trail snacks and, of course, in tea! As such, it should come as no surprise that I'll basically try any tea that says "apple" somewhere on the box.

And so it happened that during my last purchase of teas I picked up my first ever Ahmad Tea...a sampler box of their Apple Flavored Black Tea.

As the Ahmad Tea Company is based in London, their teas are sadly hard to find here in the United States. Happily, Amazon usually has a wide assortment of Ahmad Teas...solving this otherwise sad problem.

Here is how Ahmad Teas describes this tea : "A refreshing blend of exclusive quality teas enhanced with apple flavour. A delicious cup of tea for any time of the day, which can be enjoyed hot or iced."

The tea contains the following ingredients : Black tea leaves, apple flavouring.

The aroma of this tea straight out of the bag was quite encouraging. The tea had a strong apple aroma about it. This was encouraging for two reasons. The first is that all too many flavored black teas have no aroma at all...leading to a very strong black tea tastes and no taste of the "flavor" that is put into it. And secondly, as apples are aromatic...a good apple flavored tea should smell like apples to some degree.

Fortunately, the flavor of this tea matched the aroma. The tea has a strong flavor of apple, overlaid on top of a only moderately strong typical black tea flavor. Truthfully, I found it somewhat unusual...and very pleasant...that the flavor of the black tea wasn't as strong as so many other flavored black teas are. After all...if I wanted to have a black tea...I'd have it straight! And when I want a flavored black tea...I want it because I want the flavor that has been added to it!

Also missing from this tea is the bitterness you find in many black teas. I suspect one reason I have not enjoyed too many flavored black teas is because way too many of them are very, very bitter...no matter how careful you are in preparing the tea. Happily, this tea doesn't have it.

Recommendation : Yes. This is a surprisingly good and flavorful apple black tea. If you enjoy apple teas, the odds are quite high you'll enjoy this tea too. And you will not have to worry about the tea being bitter or having a nasty after-taste, either.
