Adagio Teas : Ginger Flavored Black
Tea Review
A Ginger Flavored Black Tea That Does
Really Taste Like Ginger
Summary : Wow...a flavored black tea where you
can actually taste the infused flavorings, which in this case is ginger.
So if you like ginger, I think the odds are high you will like this tea.
Review : After having several flavored black teas over
the past few days that tasted little of the "flavorings" and much of
the "black tea," I'll be honest, I sort of approached this tea from
Adagio Teas
with little anticipation and no small amount of dread. Put simply, I
was fully expecting this tea to taste like your everyday, run of the
mill black tea. Yeah, the tea might have ginger in it...but I suspected
the odds of actually tasting it were about as high as myself landing
on Mars within my lifetime.
Still, nothing ventured is nothing gained. And, since I do have a tea
review web site, I pushed aside my trepidation about trying out this
tea and popped the tin the tea comes packaged in. Hopes were not raised,
sadly, by the look of the tea...basically black tea leaves with
a few pieces of ginger in it. The aroma, however, did give me a ray of
hope...the aroma wasn't your typical black tea fragrance - you could
definitely smell the ginger.
Here is how
Adagio Teas describes this tea on their website : "In the West, ginger is a very
popular ingredient in many seasonal desserts. In the East, ginger is
celebrated as a digestive and palate cleanser. At Adagio Teas, ginger
is renowned as one of our favorite teas, combining the fresh taste of
ginger with the rich taste of Ceylon black tea."
Once the tea was brewed, I cautiously took my first sip of this tea
and was rather surprised. Yeah, you could taste the traditional black
tea...but...it wasn't nearly as strong as some other flavored black
teas I've had. More importantly, you really could taste the ginger
that has been infused into the tea.
If I have a complaint about this tea, however, it is with it's after-taste.
The tea initially goes down quite smoothly. But, give it a minute,
and you'll be greeted by a rather bitter, and nasty,
after-taste. I don't know how to describe the after-taste I tasted,
so I won't even try. Suffice it to say, I didn't like it!
Recommendation : Yes. For a flavored black tea, this
one is pretty good and actually tastes like the ginger that has been
infused into it. My only real complaint is with the rather bitter after-taste.
I would give this tea a 4 star rank but for this nasty after-taste.
That said, if you like coffee...and the nasty after-taste that goes
with it...you may not mind the after-taste in this tea at all.
