Tazo Earl Grey Scented Black Tea

A Enjoyable Tea...Even Without Anything Added!

Summary : A very pleasant scented black tea with a hint of spice.

Review : More than a few people say I share a few qualities with Jean Luc Picard. You know...the Captain of the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek Next Generation? This is no doubt due to my similar hairline, as well as my INTJ personality. Well...seems like I can add another similarity in as well...the liking of Earl Grey Black Tea, which happens to be Captain Picard's favorite tea too.

So what does Star Trek have to do with this tea? Well, absolutely nothing...but I've had some wine to drink tonight while watching Star Trek Next Generation, so thought I would bring this useless fact up in the event anyone might be interested.

So...without further adieu, let's move on to the review of this rather surprisingly good Earl Grey tea.

This Earl Grey tea from Tazo contains the following ingredients : black tea scented with the essence of bergamot.

Here is how Tazo describes this tea : "Hand blended in small batches, Tazo Tea delivers a steaming brew unlike anything you've ever tasted. Tazo's Earl Grey features a a blend of fine black teas from India and Sri Lanka flavored with the essence of bergamot. As with all black teas, Earl Grey is made from the fully fermented leaf of the Camelia Sinensis and contains caffeine."

For those people, like me, who really don't care for a "straight up taste" of black tea, well, I have some fine news for you. You see, the scented bergamot of this tea makes this tea taste completely different from your standard black tea. For this reason, you really can leave your "additions" to this tea...such as milk, cream, honey, whatever...back in the kitchen cupboard. Quite simply, this tea tastes just fine all by itself, no fancy additions required.

I was especially pleased by the "spice" of this tea. Yeah, it isn't a chai tea, but this tea still has some kick to it none-the-less. And the kick is a pleasant kick to, nothing bitter or awful about it.

And yet another surprise is the rather pleasing after-taste. As a general rule, after-tastes that originate from a bagged tea tend to disappear in a rather big hurry. Well, this tea from Tazo breaks that rule...the after-taste just goes on and on and on, sort of like the Energizer Bunny.

Overall, this is a fine black tea. I like it personally much more than "straight black teas." I also think that this would be a great tea for tea drinkers who have never tried black tea before...and want a bit of spice and "kick" to their tea. And, of course, if Star Trek the Next Generation is your favorite show, you absolutely, positively have to give this tea a try.

Recommendation : Yes. This tea is very enjoyable, has a bit of spice to it and a very pleasant and long-lasting after-taste. All in all, a very good black tea, and makes for a fine introduction for people who are new to drinking black tea.
