Stash Double Spice Chai Black Tea
Review
A Chai Tea With an Attitude!
Summary : If spicy chai teas are your thing, well,
what can I say...I have a tea for you. This chai tea from Stash contains
a true kick to it...and for a tea is real spicy!
Review : So here is is. 6am on a Monday morning. Three
days before my exile back to Wisconsin for the holidays...a trip I'm
dreading by the way. Now, mornings and me just don't get along that well...I'm
usually the one going to bed about this time, not getting up. Yet I knew
I had to "find a life" and get on a normal sleep schedule,
so here I am, at 6am, trying to wake myself up enough for the day ahead.
And what better way to wake yourself up than with a spicy tea?
Which is why I looked into my Chai Tea sampler of Stash Teas I bought
at a local grocery store. I really liked their Holiday
Chai Tea, so why not give their intriguingly labelled "double
spice chai" tea a try?
I knew right out of the little foil wrapper that this tea has an attitude.
And a big one. Very rarely am I ever "overjoyed" or "overpowered" by
the aroma of a bagged tea, let alone a supermarke brand.
Yet, this is the exception that breaks the rule. One whiff of this tea
and, well, it just says "I'm spicy...you have a problem with
that?" And truthfully, I didn't! In fact, it's exactly what
I wanted.
The Double Spice Chai Black Tea from Stash contains the following ingredients
: Blended black teas, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, clove, cardamom,
coriander and natural flavors of cinnamon, clove and cardamom.
Here is how Stash describes this tea : "For Chai lovers, a very
flavorful Chai, bursting with fragrant spices..."
Well, putting aside the aroma issue, what did this tea taste like? How
about a chai tea on "steroids," for starters. Or if you don't like the
illegal drug analogy, perhaps a "chai tea that is really, really spicy."
In many ways, what this tea simply is, and one reason I liked it so
much, is a "souped up and spiced up" version of the Holiday
Chai Tea.
The taste is basically the same...just with more attitude. And I suspect
that this attitude is accomplished by the rather long shopping list of
ingredients that goes into this tea.
But in any event, I really enjoyed this tea...a very rare thing for
a bagged tea. Perhaps it was because I was in the mood at the time for
a spicy tea and this tea delivered? Well, who knows. But whatever the
reason, if you love spicy chai teas, then I have a tea for you...this
one!
Recommendation : Yes. This is a rare day...I'm awarding
a 5 star tea rank to a bagged supermarket tea. But well, this tea deserves
it. I love spicy teas. And I especially love spicy teas that aren't overly
"black pepper tasting," which this tea neatly manages to avoid altogether
by not using black pepper. In the end, if you love spicy teas...or you
don't
like pepper tasting teas...than this tea is for you, period.
