Safeway Select Earl Grey Tea Review
A Poor Earl Grey Tea
Summary : In the world of earl grey teas, this one
is best forgotten about...as the taste, while not bad, is anything but
enjoyable or memorable.
Review : Earl grey black teas are probably my favorite
of black teas...or at least those that are not chai teas. I've just come
to love the strong and powerful flavor found in earl grey teas.
And so it was that I was sort of looking forward to trying the earl
grey tea that comes under the Safeway grocery store label...Safeway Select.
Now, I wasn't hoping for miracles here. After all, this is a bagged,
generic tea...so I had no expectations that it would rival a quality
loose-leaf earl grey tea. Still, I did have hope that it would be at
least as good as some other bagged earl grey teas I've had.
I was wrong. So shoot me.
The aroma of this tea was nothing special. Still, it did have some aroma
to it...which admittedly raised my hopes just a tad. That said, the weak
fragrance of the tea told me volumes about what the tea would taste like.
And sadly, those expectations were met.
The flavor of the tea was as expected...a weak, traditional earl grey
flavor. It wasn't bad...and did indeed taste like other earl grey teas.
The problem is that the flavor is just so darn weak...far weaker than
even other bagged earl grey teas I've had.
Overall, if you are a earl grey fanatic, avoid this tea...as it WILL
disappoint you. That said, if you have had other earl grey teas before
and find the flavor too strong, then perhaps, just maybe, you might find
something redeeming in this tea.
Recommendation : No. Not the worlds finest earl grey
tea...but it isn't drain cleaner either. It is just weak...weak in flavor
and weak
in fragrance. It works in a "pinch," but certainly is not a tea that
is either special or memorable.
