Mighty Leaf Breakfast Americana
Black Tea Review
A Strong Traditional Black Tea
Summary : This black tea pretty much tastes like any
other straight black tea I've had...strong flavor while somehow being
quite boring. The potent flavor and mild bitterness will definitely get
you up in the morning...but I can think of more tasty and enjoyable teas
to wake up too truthfully.
Review : I have a friend in the UK who lives and dies
by black tea. After all, it IS England...a place where tradition dies
very hard. And as most everyone has been raised on straight black tea
from birth...and since black tea in the UK is the equivalent of coffee
here in the United States...I've had no success in getting my friend
to try some new teas that "break free from tradition."
Likewise, my friend hasn't had much success in convincing me black tea
is the worlds greatest tea. I personally have found straight black teas
to be, well, boring. And while the flavor is very strong...it well...lacks
any uniqueness to it. Only by adding milk, sugar, lemon, salsa, ketchup
and anything else that is handy...frequently in copious amounts...does
straight black tea usually become enjoyable
to me.
Because of this, I usually have to be in the mood to endure some self-inflicted
pain when I try a new straight black tea...also known as a traditional
black tea...for the first time.
Here is how Mighty Leaf describes this tea : "Breakfast Americana
is a robust, wide-awake blend of premium black tea leaves from Ceylon,
Darjeeling and Assam. Our take on the classic English Breakfast is serene
contemplation from dawn to dusk."
This tea contains exactly one ingredient...black tea leaves.
The fragrance of this tea basically smelled identical to all the other
traditional black teas I've tried...so no surprises...happy or otherwise.
And the flavor of this tea? Well...it was strong...like other traditional
black teas are. And like other traditional black teas...this tea had
a "full body flavor" as many say, although to me that term is rather
meaningless.
Instead, what counts of me is whether the flavor is good or not...like...tasty
on the tongue. And well, it is ok in my opinion. Rather boring. Quite
strong. And if you like coffee, there is a good bet you'll enjoy this
tea to some degree or another. But, if you are like me and enjoy a tea
with some zing to it...you most definitely won't find it here.
Recommendation : Yes and No. If you love traditional
black teas, I suspect you'll love this tea too as it has a full strong
and full body flavor to it. But to me, this is just your typical rather
boring and somewhat bitter black tea.
