Lipton Spiced Chai Black Tea Review
A Pretty Average Spiced Chai Tea...Good...But
Not Great
Summary : This tea would best be described as a moderate
strength chai tea. There is definitely "spice" in this tea,
but is isn't as strong as some other bagged spiced chai teas, and nowhere
near a quality
loose-leaf tea.
Review : I'm a spice junkie. How bad? Well, I use to
put jalapeno peppers in my spaghetti. And jalapeno jelly beans, yum,
yum. And I love spicy Mexican food, spicy Thai food and spicy Chinese
food. So, to sum it up, I just love spices...provided there is flavor!
Perhaps that is why I don't like tobasco sauce - it provides spice (heat)
but no flavor.
So why this confession from a spice junkie? Simple, I was looking forward
to giving the Spiced Chai Black Tea from Lipton a try...simply because
chai teas are spicy!
Lipton's Spiced Chai Black Tea contains the following ingredients :
Assam black tea, Sweet cinnamon, allspice, ginger root, black pepper,
cloves, natural cardamom, cinnamon and clove flavors with other natural
flavors (contains soy lecithin).
Admittedly, you won't be overpowered by the aroma from this tea when
you open up the foil bag. You do get a spicy fragrance, but it isn't
nearly as strong as Tazo's
Spiced Chai Tea. Still, while the fragrance wasn't that strong, this
tea still somehow smelled alright...so it was with happy thoughts that
I gave this tea a try.
Here's how Lipton describes this tea on their website : "For something
totally different, try LIPTON Spiced Chai, an exotic blend of savory
spices, rich, all natural Assam black tea leaves and a hint of ginger.
Add milk to create a Chai Latte – a delicious treat. Plus, LIPTON
Tea provides a healthy dose of protective flavonoid antioxidants."
So how's the taste? Well...how about good but nothing overwhelming.
As I prefer a "strong spiced tea," I found the spice in this tea just
a bit on the weak side. Make no mistake...there is definitely spice there.
It's just not as strong as I would have liked.
Overall, this is a good tea. And if you like spiced teas that are a
bit "weaker" in kick then me, I suspect you'll really like
this tea. However, if you do want a real spiced tea, then this one may
be a slight
disappointment.
Recommendation : Yes. This tea isn't as spicy as the
similar Tazo Spiced
Chai Black Tea, but it is still good. If you want
"less spice in your life," this tea from Lipton is a good one to try.
