The herb eleutherococcus senicosus, frequently shortened to
eleuthero, is a highly beneficial herb found in many teas, along with
other various
herbal remedies. This plant is also frequently known as the Devil's
Shrub or Siberian Ginseng, too.
Eleuthero has a wide range of uses. One of the most beneficial uses
is to relieve fatigue by slowing down the release of
corticosteroids and adrenaline. By slowing down this process, people
generally find that they have more energy for longer periods of time.
Additionally, eleuthero has been shown to be effective in increasing
a persons ability to resist the detrimental effects of stress.
Other uses of this herb, which have not been scientifically proven,
are in arthritis treatment, treating back and knee pain and enhancing
memory.
Lastly, it is believed that this plant enhances the bodies resistence
of various diseases, including stomach cancer, breast cancer, skin cancer
and ovarian cancer. There is, however, at this date no scientific studies
to back this up.
Eleuthero is available in a wide variety of forms for human consumption.
Beyond its use in tea, you can also find eleuthero available in tablets,
capsules as well as dried powdered roots or stems.
